What Is Expungement?

Expungement in Missouri and Kansas involves an individual destroying, sealing, or removing their criminal records by filing a petition to the court. The process of removing criminal records could take months to complete and may also include a fee.

How to Go About Expunging Your Criminal Records

To qualify for expungement, Missouri and Kansas residents must have completed any parole time. In addition, Missouri residents must wait 3 years after a felony conviction and 1 year after a misdemeanor with no other charges, and Kansas residents must wait 3-5 years after felony convictions and 1-3 years after a misdemeanor with no other charges.

If those areas have been completed, a petition can be filed and sent to the court to remove the court records from your name.

If you have questions about qualifying or what the petition process includes, contacting a criminal defense attorney, such as Veterans KC Criminal Defense, can be wise.
